What role does a Sweet recipes play in Indian culture???
Sweets!!! Who doesn’t like it, I think everyone would love it, if there are some people who don’t like sweets or not too indulging with sweets for health or diet reasons, at least they will have one favorite sweet recipe which they used to have or like to eat or at least to share. Sweet recipes in my idea are something which spreads happiness in life by way of celebrations/festivals/ anniversaries etc, in one or the other ways. We like to have sweets in our life especially in certain moments like…
• Celebrations
• Festivals
• Anniversaries
• Achievements / Promotions
• Happier Moments
Like these are the moments or time we would like to have sweet or share sweets with our beloved ones.
Especially in India, we cannot imagine a Festival/ Celebration without sweet recipes or sweet dishes. Sometimes we Indulge in it so much that we think “Sweet recipes are not made for festivals instead festivals are made for sweet recipes “. It shows that we just need a reason to have or prepare sweet recipes in our kitchen.
As Indian culture is known for its heavy and old traditional beliefs surrounding festivals and celebrations… Sometimes it looks like overindulgence but it is one of the reasons which keeps our unity in diversity culture to be strong.
Even we have particular sweet recipes or food for each type of celebration of festivals, for example, most famous festivals in India when we have more demand for sweets are like
Dussehra / Dasara
Deepavali / Diwali
Ganesh Chaturthi
Id Milad
Christmas
These are some of the main festivals celebrated across our country with pomp and grandeur.
As I mentioned Dussehra it is one of the important and main festivals of Hindu community which is linked to the story of God Rama and his victory over the asura Ravan. So here to glorify or celebrate that moment, we prepare many sweets like ladoos, payasma, etc.
One of the special ladoo or sweet recipe in Dasara is Navaratri Special laddu and it is famously called Maa Laddu or Fried Gram Laddu. It is one of the popular Laddu from south India and it is simple and quick to prepare ladoo recipe.
Try this tasty LadduRecipe on special occasions as Dussehra.
We do celebrate Deepavali / Diwali as fervently as Dussehra, this festival is known for its lighting, crackers, pooja and lots of sweet recipes. This festival is celebrated in the lore of Lord Rama returning to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan, it is the symbol of victory celebration of good over bad and associated with a grand welcoming of Lord Rama to his kingdom.
Like this, we have so many reasons and stories for celebration in our real life also. As we do a lot of sweet recipes in this season here I like to share one of the sweet memories of our childhood during Deepavali celebration at our grandmother’s place relishing her handmade Laddu, Moong Dal Laddu and rekindle those memories.
This is one of the traditional and very tasty Indian Sweet and with its delicious flavor; it becomes one of the favorite sweet for all. Try this recipe during this festival season as Deepavali Special.
After recalling the memories of Deepavali, we will discuss another important celebration season and what role do sweet recipes play in Christmas. Christmas is celebrated all over the world in a very grand way and is regarded as the day when Jesus Christ was born. It is one of the festivals which are celebrated in most of the countries.
So when we say Christmas, the thing which comes to our mind is Vacations, Christmas tree, Gifts, Santa and special cakes recipes.
Here I like to add my school days memories through a Christmas celebration in school with friends and at that time we used to get a Christmas cake from school and we were eagerly waiting for the management to distribute the cake.
I just love that cake recipe because being a vegetarian I can have this cake because it is usually made without eggs and I did not have to worry about eating a cake made with eggs. It is famously known as Eggless Christmas fruitcake.
It is one of the tasty cake recipes of my childhood I ever had which is made with lots of dry fruits, nuts, spices, and fruit juice.
I hope you will try this simple yet tasty cake recipe in this Christmas season and New Year celebration in your kitchen on your own and get a real baking experience.
Festivals are the one reason to bring our tradition and keep our old tradition and pass it to our younger generation, by celebrating together they get to know about the values and morals of our culture.
There are basically two types of festivals like religious and national festivals, the religious festival brings our family and community people together and national festivals which connect people as a nation.
Like this, we celebrate all kind of festivals of different communities and traditions with joy and unity and make our country proud by showing unity in a diverse culture. And in that, sweets are one small but important part of our culture….. It helps to bring different people together and savor and share sweets and happy moments with each other.
Enjoy each and every moment like a celebration whether it may be a festival or a normal day!!!
